EU Code Week BLOG NEWS

This year, we traditionally participated in #EUCodeWeek celebrations in Serbia and Montenegro as a company. Our goal was to inspire and support our colleagues as well as the next generation of IT stars.

We organized a series of events, that offered students and colleagues a chance to learn, interact, and have fun.

Below, you can see all the activities we organized:

    CodeDay

We kicked off EU Code Week with Code Day at the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad. Our colleague Zorana Vukićević, Software Engineer and Development Lead, held an insightful lecture on "Refactoring Knowledge through Practical Examples".

In this lecture, we highlighted key theoretical programming concepts and demonstrated how they are applied in daily work on commercial projects. We addressed real challenges and showed students how to recognize and leverage what they already know. The goal was to help students gain a deeper understanding of coding and code optimization, empowering them to apply these skills confidently in the future! In short, we helped students bridge the gap between what they've learned and what they'll need to do in practice.

    React Workshop

Next, we held a React workshop at our company offices for third- and fourth-year students from the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad. Led by our colleague Milan Bunjevčev, a Software Engineer and Development Lead, the workshop was attended by fifteen students who focused on React. The primary goal was for them to explore and tackle challenges independently, while we were there to step in when needed and provide specific answers, support, and solutions.

    Codeference

For the fourth time in a row, we packed our bags and headed to Zlatibor to attend "Codeference". In three days, more than 300 students visited our booth, to learn more about the company and internships, as well as to enjoy various games we prepared.

Additionally, our colleagues organized an engaging lecture and workshop for the students.

The lecture delivered by our colleague Mario Gula, Partner and Software Engineer, was titled 'Common Misconceptions of Junior Developers.' This session provided students with practical advice on the most frequent mistakes made by junior developers, along with strategies to avoid them, helping them to accelerate their growth and become more efficient in their work.

The workshop was conducted by our colleague Marko Jovanović, Lead Data Specialist and Development Lead, and focused on 'Rad in Action: Building Smarter Query Systems.' During this workshop, students learned how to build smarter query systems using advanced techniques and tools—a perfect opportunity for those looking to deepen their knowledge in data science.

Podgorica was on fire too – 2 weeks, 3 insightful lectures

The World of IT: Tips and Experiences

We introduced third-year students from the Faculty of Information Systems and Technologies (FIST) at the University of Donja Gorica to the world of IT through tips and insights from our colleagues.

The presentation consisted of five mini-presentations: Veljko Sekulić covered frontend development, Ljubica Samardžić discussed backend, Đorđe Vujičić spoke about mobile development, Teodora Ukšanović covered data areas, and Danilo Krkeljić introduced students to the world of DevOps. Each topic was presented with practical examples and insights from real-world experience, along with discussions on current industry trends. The students were highly engaged and proactive, making for an interactive session that concluded with quiz questions from each topic.

    The Art of Debugging

Our colleague Dženan Bećirović, a Mobile App Engineer, gave a presentation on this topic to students at the Faculty of Information Technology at the Mediterranean University. We covered the debugging process, types of bugs, debugging techniques, and tools, with Dženan sharing tips on how students can improve their skills in this area. The main focus of this lecture was to convey the mindset behind debugging and how to effectively use debugging tools. The quiz questions made the presentation more interesting and surely brought competition to the table.

Data Engineering Essentials (From Source to Powerful Data Insights)

This lecture was presented by our colleagues Andrija Bošković, Data Engineer, and Tijana Đukić, Data Engineer, at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Montenegro. They introduced the principles of Data Engineering as applied in their daily work.

Tijana focused on using Python and other tools for implementing ETL processes. She backed everything up with practical examples using Airflow. Andrija provided more details about Data Warehousing, analytical databases, their modeling, implementation, and maintenance.

The goal was to present the importance and methods of data collection, storage, and preparation for high-quality analysis.

Last but not least – Internal Competition Task

To wrap up the story and mark the end of #EUCodeWeek in an interactive and fun way, we decided to test the programming skills of our colleagues in Serbia and Montenegro. We prepared a challenge that allowed them to showcase their knowledge while also having fun. The colleague who completed the task the fastest and with the highest quality received a symbolic prize.

For us as a company, sharing knowledge and connecting with students and colleagues is one of our main priorities. We are grateful that #EUCodeWeek reminds us each year of how important this is. We look forward to all future projects and events where we can continue to share even more knowledge, innovation and interaction.

Finally, we encourage and invite you to become part of some of these stories. Visit our Career page, Instagram, or LinkedIn and step into the world of IT.
